Disappointing.Jun 29, 2009 This amp is okay, but just okay. In terms of looks, it looks great from a distance, and I especially love the blue LED's, but when I looked closer and saw that the knobs are made of PLASTIC, I regretted purchasing this amp. The faceplate is nice aluminum, so why use cheap looking plastic for the knobs? My main volume knob already has a scuff mark on it.
I would be happy to look past this visual design faux pas if the sound quality were excellent. I was underwhelmed at first (I realize there needs to be some "burn in time") and wanted to adjust the base and treble to achieve a more pleasing tone. Unfortunately, (and this is the real issue) the treble and base knobs barely make any noticeable difference, which makes me wonder why even bother including them? In addition, there is no way to control the base and treble with the remote. The remote, however, is great looking and made of the same aluminum used on the faceplate.
Cambridge Audio has some mixed up priorities. The remote, which I don't even use (I use a universal remote to control all of my equipment) should be all plastic, and the amp's knobs should be nice, solid aluminum! Who's running the show over there???
DISAPPOINTING.
