4Good for pairing with Technics SL-BD20DJan 30, 2008
I recently bought this cartridge along with the Technics SL-BD20D and so far I've been very satisfied. The sound quality is noticeably better than the included stock cartridge and installation was very easy. Anyways, I wrote this review in response to the one negative review complaining about the excessive hum. With my setup I don't experience any additional hum. Unfortunately I don't know enough to tell you why he/she experienced hum and why I didn't at all. I guess buy at your own risk.

1Rating if used with Technics SLBD20D turntableAug 12, 2007
I saw this recommended for use with the Panasonic Technics SLBD20D Semi Automatic Turntable, but it cannot be used with that turntable due to a pronounced hum, even with the ground wire attached. This may be a good cartridge with a different turntable, one with a shielded or distant motor, but not with the SLBD20D. In fact, a brief Google search after I tried to use this cartridge with this turntable produced many references to "the infamous Grado hum" - so perhaps it has this problem with other turntables as well. This problem should surely be mentioned.

5The Best cartridge I've Ever Used.Jan 31, 2007
This was the third phono cartridge I ever purchased, and the only one of the three that I would consider buying again.

I got the smoothest sound out of my vinyl that I've ever gotten with this cartridge. Unfortunately, it has one very serious weakness--the stylus assembly is incredibly fragile, not to mention impossible to change if you don't have the special tool.

If you're doing any kind of archival work (like transferring your vinyl to your computer), you definitely couldn't go wrong with the Prestige Black.

5Great ProductJan 08, 2007
The sound this cartridge produces is amazing. My albums sound better than when they were new. I was close to getting rid of my turntable until I searched Amazon for a new cartridge. I am now enjoying many old singles and albums, many of which are not available on cd. Don't throw out the old lp's--get one of these cartridges and relive the past.

4Keeping Vinyl alive Jan 05, 2007
The Grado Black cartridge is a fine sounding cartridge with a musical clarity unmatched in the price range. To get noticably better sound would cost many times the asking price. My experience with Grado is that even their low end cartridges compare with their higher end fare. It makes it practical to keep fresh styli on your Vinyl.
