NAD C355BEE smooth and powerfulOct 22, 2009 My NAD C355BEE is driving a pair of MB Quart QLS 530 speakers, and I love this amp! The sound is pure, it doesn't do anything unusual. The highs are clean and powerful the base is tight and the midrange is just plain real. I don't hear any transient intermodulation distortion in any music, no matter how complicated the piece. Even at low volume the music aggressively exits the speakers and presents itself with clarity and conviction. This is perhaps the most telling characteristic. Most systems leave you wanting. You find yourself mentally struggling to pull the sound out. You know it's in there, it just doesn't come out, so you turn up the volume. This amp just lets it flow uncolored.
Presently I am playing my whole music collection over again and hearing details I never heard before.
The C355BEE has quite a number of inputs which is important to me because I have my Computer, CD, DVD, Tuner, and Short Wave radio connected. Even so there are more inputs. There is even an Mp3 jack on the front panel.
The only thing I would change, would be to have finer volume adjustments possible from the remote control, but that is minor because the knob makes fine adjustments, and I usually leave it at one level and use the mute button when necessary.
I read the reviews, but comparing the NAD C355BEE to $3500, $2500, and $1500 amps convinced me that all I needed was the NAD C355BEE. I honestly did not hear anything better. All those amps sounded a bit different from each other, but after 3 separate listening sessions, I simply did not hear any other amp sound better.
For the price, nothing I found was even close. The NAD C355BEE sounds solid and reassuring at all times.
To enjoy my music I need to be confident all is well. I need to know I am listening to what the artists created. Each sound and tone must be convincing so I don't get distracted and second guess the piece and wonder if it is being accurately produced. The NAD C355BEE frees my mind to focus on the music.
I listened to the smaller NAD units. They were ok, but as they went up in power, the sound tightened up and became more real. After listening to the NAD C355BEE, I stopped shopping.
